Portugal will begin their title defence against a Hungarian side that hasn’t lost a single match in their last 11 games.
The Tuesday evening in Budapest will see the two European sides with a whopping clash to cancel each other out in the opener.
Portugal 2-0 Hungary
Portugal 3-0 Hungary
It was a hard-fought victory for the Hungarians in the qualification stages of UEFA Euro 2021. After qualifying for the playoffs, they overcame Bulgaria, and later on, Iceland to secure a spot in Euros.
It is no doubt that Hungary is not the favourite to qualify to the following stages, but if the fans want to see their national side securing a spot, tonight would be an excellent way to start against a solid Portuguese side.
There’s no doubt that the Portuguese squad has improved massively with the new defensive line. They have Premier League Player of the Year in Ruben Dias at the back leading the lines.
Upfront, Portugal will be confident in its attacking threat with in-form Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Jota, Bernardo Silva, and one of the greatest players of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo.
The defending champions have the perfect chance to clinch a victory against the weakest opponent in the group.
Things may not seem idyllic as they appear on the surface, but it will be hard for Portugal to defend their title this time around.
Barring no late injury news, the two teams will line up like this:
Hungary: Gulacsi; Fiola, Orban, Attila Szalai; Lovrencsics, Kleinheisler, Nagy, Schafer, Holender; Sallai, Adam Szalai
Portugal: PatrIcio; Semedo, Dias, Pepe, Guerreiro; Danilo, Willam Carvalho, Fernandes; Bernardo, Ronaldo, Jota
The expert panel suggests a victory for Portugal in an emphatic fashion.
Our prediction: Portugal 2-0 Hungary
Cristiano Ronaldo and his men will be yearning for a win against Hungary on Tuesday evening. But would it be enough for them to find a narrow escape by qualifying to the next stage? We can only wait to find out.
